The Centre College has been home to both active Phi Beta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa chapters for the past 50 years. Over 70% of Kentucky’s Rhodes Scholars have come from the Centre College in the last 50 years. Fulbright, Goldwater, Rotary, and other major scholarship winners often leave the College.

National, international, graduate, undergraduate, and postgraduate students in all fields are eligible for the Center College’s International Language Scholarship Awards.
Benefits of the Scholarship: For all successful students, The Centre College will provide a grant between $3,000 and $5,000 each year.
Eligibility Criteria For Scholarships for International Language Study at Centre College:
Candidates must pass two courses in their preferred language at the center with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in each course;
Candidates must be studying abroad in order to be eligible for the program. Applicants must successfully finish two courses in a second foreign language or one course in a second foreign language in addition to Linguistics 210.
Application process:
All successful candidates must send an application to Centre College using the Common Application, which will be sent at the end of the application page.
Supporting Documents:
Scholarship applicants who speak French, German, or Spanish must write an abstract in their main language. Scholarship applicants who want to learn Japanese, Latin, or Mandarin can write their essays in English. They should answer the question, “When you became interested in this language, which of the following did you learn?” What do you like most about the language skills you’ve learned? How do you think your study of the language and culture will help you in the future?” (500-word limit);

- Admission Requirements:
The ACT or SAT can be suggested by any student who wants to take it, and the results can be sent to the right department.
Language requirements:
Candidates must be able to show that they know French, German, Latin, Mandarin, or Spanish, or they must be willing to study Arabic. Every international visitor to the Center who doesn’t speak English as their first language will have to show their official TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test scores (DET). The Center needs at least a 90 on the TOEFL, a 7.0 on the IELTS, and a 115 on the DET.
