Stormzy Cambridge Scholarships
Open to black students from the UK who will be getting their first degree at the University of Cambridge in the fall of 2019.
Stormzy, a British rapper, is giving two scholarships to black undergraduate students at the University of Cambridge to help fix the school’s often-criticized lack of diversity. These scholarships will be given out for the first time in 2018. They will cover the full cost of tuition and also give students money for living expenses. Students’ applications are judged based on their family’s income, their social and economic background, and their personal statements.
BMI Foundation John Lennon Scholarships
Open to current or former college or university students in the US between the ages of 17 and 24.
Even though John Lennon is no longer alive to make music or give scholarships, his legacy lives on in many ways. In 1997, his widow, Yoko Ono, along with the BMI Foundation, set up the John Lennon Scholarship. To enter, you need to send in an original song that isn’t owned by a major music publisher or record label. Every year, three scholarships worth $20,000 each are given to the people who wrote the best original songs.
David Geffen Medical Scholarships
Anyone who wants to get into the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA can enter.
David Geffen gave an incredible US$300 million to UCLA’s David Geffen School of Medicine in 2002 and 2012. As a result, up to 20% of students receive full scholarships every year, which cover tuition, room and board, books and supplies, and other costs for the entire four-year program. International students can apply, and scholarships are given based on how well they do in school.
David Letterman Telecommunications Scholarship
Students at Ball State University who are majoring or minoring in telecommunications can apply.
David Letterman, an American talk show host who went to Ball State University, started this scholarship in 1985. The winner gets $10,000, the first runner-up gets $5,000, and the second runner-up gets $3,333. To apply, you’ll need to show off your creativity and meet the requirements.
The Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund (SCSF)
Open to US high school seniors and college students under 25.
Who is Shawn Carter? you might ask. The rapper Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, and his mother Gloria started this scholarship program in 2003. The Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund (SCSF) was set up to help hard-working people who need money go to college. The SCSF gives grants to students. These grants are paid directly to the student’s university to cover tuition, books, and other costs related to school. If you get this scholarship, you’ll be asked to give back by doing community service and being a mentor for other people who want to become Shawn Carter Scholars. Beyoncé also gave out her own scholarships in 2018, but it’s not clear yet if these will be available again in 2019.
Oprah Winfrey Endowed Scholarships Program
Open to: Freshmen at Morehouse College who have both good grades and a need for money.
The Oprah Winfrey South Africa Leadership Program, which enables Oprah Winfrey scholars to participate in an international exchange opportunity with South African partner institutions, is one of four different scholarships that Oprah Winfrey offers to students at Morehouse College, a liberal arts college in Atlanta, Georgia. You must have conducted community service and have a minimum GPA and SAT score in order to be considered for these awards.
